Information Management

We have a dedicated team of information law lawyers who are trained and experienced in providing niche assistance to our clients to help them manage information legally, securely and in as flexible a manner as possible, tailored to their business models.

We also advise clients on protecting their data from unlawful use by third parties (including advising on web-scraping and interception of communications). Information law consists primarily of data protection and freedom of information law.

These areas of law interact (and inevitably conflict) with each other at numerous levels of a business, from day-to-day dealings with customers and employees, to dealings with commercial information as part of tender proposals or company acquisitions.

A failure to comply with these pieces of legislation (for example a failure to notify the Information Commissioner of the processing of personal data or through the tampering of information) has both civil and criminal repercussions, not to mention adverse reputational issues. Recent high-profile incidents reported in the media highlight the increasing importance of data protection compliance and the sanctions imposed by the Information Commissioner for a breach of the legislation by organisations.
