Employer Advice

Our pension lawyers have many years experience both in-house and in private practice, advising sponsoring and participating employers on many pension scheme types.

These include not only defined benefit (DB) final salary but also career average and other DB and hybrid pension designs - single-employer, multi-employer and centralised – as well as standalone life assurance schemes and defined contribution (DC) money purchase arrangements.

Establishing, amending, merging and winding-up schemes are common DB worktypes.  Compliance with the consultation requirements of the Regulations on “listed changes” to schemes, and scheme and statutory protections for “subsisting” (pre-change) benefit entitlements is a particular specialism of our team, as is age discrimination.

Salary sacrifice and enhancement of transfer values are again topical and matters on which we have advised for several years.  We have also been consolidating much-amended trust law-based scheme deeds and member booklets to reflect replacement of Inland Revenue approval legislation by “A-Day” registration and other legislative changes for financial services providers, universities and multi-nationals for many years.  DC work takes in advice on stakeholder, group personal pension and other contract law-based plans.
