Planning Strategy & Advice

Devising an effective strategy is a pre-requisite of a successful planning process; we have extensive experience advising public and private sector clients on how to approach the authorisation process, including:

  • Corporate governance issues
  • the relevant planning and environmental law framework
  • community engagement and objection management
  • legal risk management
  • programming issues
  • project management issues
  • client reporting and decision making.

An effective planning strategy should direct scarce resources to what needs to be done to gain a safe permission in acceptable terms – not to waste time going through unnecessary hoops. The strategy should be relevant, focused, accessible and affordable. It should take account of and support the project's programme.

The planning strategy must dovetail with the procurement strategy – treating these processes as separate stages will directly impact on cost and programme at later stages. There is no point in consenting what cannot be delivered.
