Public Policy

Public policy is the bedrock of our development system.

All too often the private sector skims over emerging policy as they prioritise the development of their projects. The new planning regime will make it extremely difficult to secure planning permission contrary to policy - especially as the legal implications of Strategic Environmental Assessment take effect. Never has it been more important to participate in emerging policy from the National Planning Framework to the local plan alteration.

We all want a more efficient planning regime – with the increased opportunities comes increased responsibility – the responsibility to participate in the formulation of a sustainable policy framework for economic growth. The planning system needs culture change – from both private and public sectors.

We have been involved in a range of policy research projects for the Scottish Government including: Development Planning in Scotland, The Use and Effectiveness of Planning Agreements; Compulsory Purchase and Land Compensation in Scotland. We are currently advising the Scottish Government on their E-Planning project.

Our multi-disciplinary team makes us well placed to advise on public policy issues as they emerge and how they might affect our clients' property interests. Our recruitment of Graham U'ren, the former Director of the RTPI in Scotland, enhances our skill base in this area.
