Public law is the law that governs the state and its interaction with individuals, including companies and other legal entities.
We live in a global economy, compete ever more fiercely and face the challenges of scarce resources, energy supply and climate change. We have become ever more regulated. Government relies on the private sector to help deliver its policies and services. And public bodies are expected to adopt and follow many of the practices to be found in the private sector.
At Dundas & Wilson, we have recognised the growing importance of public law to our clients by establishing our public law practice. It brings together acknowledged specialists in individual areas which together comprise public law. The practice covers authorisation processes including planning permissions and environmental processes, private legislation, regulation, local government and public administration as well as freedom of information and human rights. It also specialises in areas of importance to both the public and private sector including employment, procurement, private financing of social infrastructure projects, best value and EU Competition and State Aid.
The team is led by Colin Boyd QC, the former Lord Advocate who brings to Dundas & Wilson a wealth of experience in government and public law.
