Barnardo’s have a brush with the law…and a roller
Dundas & Wilson assisted Barnardo’s with several projects during the course 08/09, one of which was the redecoration of the home of one of the beneficiaries of its 16+ scheme, in July 2008.
As one of the UK's leading children's charities, Barnardo's works with 115,000 children, young people and their families each year. They run over 350 vital community services throughout the UK, including their 16+ scheme.
16+ offers assistance and support to young persons aged 16+ who have been given accommodation and/or who are looked after by local authorities.
A team of six volunteers, including partners, Allan Wernham and Eric Galbraith from our Glasgow office, used some of their CSR Time allowance to assist Barnardo's with this challenge in the north of the City.
D&W's volunteers went along to Lisa's* new flat to help decorate 3 rooms which were in desperate need of a makeover. By giving up their time, our volunteers have helped Lisa to complete a job which she does not have the time or funds to complete herself. Such support will now allow Lisa to focus her efforts on her education and finding a career path to follow.
Some quotes…
"Sadly, some young people have had a more difficult start to their lives so providing support to help them access housing and helping them set up their own home is very satisfying. It’s been a lot of fun and everyone’s been really enthusiastic about helping. It’s good to get away from the desk and really see the difference you can make through giving a bit of your time to a good cause.” - Eric Galbraith, Partner
"Without the help of Barnardo’s Scotland and the people from D&W who have given up their time to be here today, I wouldn’t have been able to decorate the flat myself. It means I can finally settle in a place I can call my own home at last. I’m really grateful to the guys for their help and they’ve done a smashing job." - Lisa (16+ user)
