Legal firm lights up Quarriers homeless service

Date:
14 Dec 2009

Five volunteers from the Glasgow office of UK law firm Dundas & Wilson attended the Quarriers Stopover Project on Monday 14 December as part of an Employee Challenge. It was the third time the firm had provided help at the homeless service in the last two months, this time helping young people to decorate the centre for Christmas.

A lot of festive fun was had as the team and young people helped to decorate two Christmas trees, the communal lounge, line the corridors with hanging decorations and put up Christmas lights in each of the bedrooms.

Brian McMenemy, Depute Manager at Stopover, said: “It was great to welcome the team from Dundas & Wilson back yet again. They’ve already really helped transform our building with a new coat of paint and now make it feel very Christmassy. The look on the young people’s faces when they were given their very own lights to hang in their rooms was amazing. This will really help them feel a bit more settled over the festive period.”

Emily Catterwell, CSR Officer at Dundas & Wilson, said: “Being surrounded by festive cheer at this time of year is something most of us take for granted but, for many of those at Stopover, Christmas can be a difficult time. It was a pleasure to provide the centre with decorations and volunteers to assist the young people give the centre a ‘splash’ of festivity.”

Louise Andrew, trainee solicitor at Dundas & Wilson said: “I was very impressed with the facilities at Stopover and by the staff there who provide support for some of Glasgow's most vulnerable young people. This is a fantastic project and one which deserves as much community support as possible and I hope to be involved in the future.”
