Alan became managing partner in May 2006 having held various management positions within D&W continuously over the previous 10 years. Initially specialising in corporate law he gained early experience in the government and utilities sectors particularly on major power projects, pathfinder PFIs and project financings. Latterly he headed up D&W's Infrastructure Group specialising in major projects.

Advising the city council in implementing Edinburgh's integrated transport initiative (including congestion charging);

Advising Babcock International for the £350m outsourcing of the operation and maintenance of the Faslane Naval base;

Advising Highlands and Islands Airports Limited in relation to the airport terminal project at Inverness;
