Donald specialises in the Energy and Utilities sector, with particular focus in the UK electricity sector. He has advised in a number of power projects - fossil fuel plants, CHP schemes and renewable generation - and also in long-term commercial supply contracts, water projects and waste management projects.

Acted for the privatisation and flotation of the Scottish electricity supply industry.

Acted for the Scottish Office in overseeing the transfer of water and sewage assets from Scottish regional councils to three new water authorities.

Acted for Scottish and Southern Energy in various power station joint ventures, combined heat and power schemes and other energy projects, including Fellside, £100m and Seabank, £340m.
