Scottish Government Consultation on Development Plan Examinations

Date:
19 Apr 2012

The Scottish Government is consulting on options for potential changes to the development plan examination system introduced under the Planning etc (Scotland) Act 2006.

Up to date development plans are at the core of the reformed Scottish planning system. Many new plans are progressing through the plan-making process introduced under the Planning etc (Scotland) Act 2006. Currently if there are unresolved representations in relation to a proposed plan, the Scottish Ministers must appoint an independent Reporter to hold an examination. The Reporter examines issues raised in the representations and produces a report with recommendations. The Reporter’s recommendations, which may modify the proposed plan, are largely binding on the planning authority.
