What did you do before life at Dundas and Wilson?

Before I studied law at Strathclyde University, I completed a degree in Aeronautical Engineering at Glasgow University.  After graduating I did a bit travelling spending time in Europe, including visits to Budapest, Paris, Milan, Venice, Rome and Barcelona before heading off to Australia for an amazing 3 months visiting friends.

What were your first impressions of Dundas and Wilson?

I was lucky enough to obtain a place with the firm as a summer student a couple of years before starting my traineeship which gave me a really good insight in to the firm.  I found all members of staff to be very friendly and that senior fee earners are always keen to assist with any queries that you have which resulted in a great learning environment..

What is/are your favourite thing(s) about working for Dundas and Wilson?

Working for a firm like Dundas and Wilson has massive benefits.  The standard of the in-house training is second to none and the in-house support lawyer system is constantly working in the background to build on and improve the regular training courses that you have the opportunity to attend.

Due to the size and reputation of the firm you are often lucky enough to be exposed to high profile work from early on in your career.  I have picked up experience in a vast and diverse range of transactions in a very short period of time and I am looking forward to building on my experience working with a exciting list of clients.

The social aspect is a real bonus too.  The firm has sports teams including 5-a-side, touch rugby and cricket teams throughout their respective offices and you are always encouraged to get involved.

What are your aspirations both in and out of Dundas and Wilson?

The immediate goal is is to continue to develop as a solicitor and pick up the relevant experience in my field in order to progress up the ladder with Dundas & Wilson.

Outside of Dundas & Wilson I am still hopeful that Pep Guardiola decides that he would like me to play up front for Barcelona but on the odd chance this doesn't happen I am always looking for new ways to keep fit. Despite saying 'I would never do it again' I harbour ambitions of completing another marathon at some point, but not too soon!

What are the 3 best pieces of advice you have been given that you would pass on to others?

Hard work will be rewarded.

Building good relationships with your clients and colleagues can be every bit as important as your knowledge of the law.

Never be fearful of getting involved in something which is new to you.

What's your most memorable occasion at Dundas and Wilson?

Thankfully I have been involved in a variety of challenging and rewarding transactions during my time with Dundas & Wilson, but on a personal level the most memorable moment was when it was confirmed that I had secured a newly qualified position with the firm after my traineeship. After years at university and the traineeship, I was delighted to know that I would be continuing my career at the firm.
